Meet The Trainer
Ashten jump-started her career by attending and certifying in Starmark Academy’s Canine Training and Behavior Specialist Program, where she graduated at the top of her class. Upon course completion, she accepted an Internship position with Starmark. She learned about many training-related topics like basic and competitive obedience, scent detection, behavior modification, tracking/trailing, how dogs learn, etc.
In 2023, she attended American K9 Interdiction, a police k9 and detection dog training school. There she trained and certified with a Lab named Cheddar on narcotics. During this course, she learned more in-depth about detection, tracking and bite work.
Her specialties are behavior issues, obedience and E-collar training. She has competed in conformation, obedience, dock diving, fast cat, scent work and earned trick titles with her 4 dogs.
Ozzy has done fast cat, dock diving, and knows a lot of tricks. Medusa has competed in fast cat, conformation, obedience, scent work and also knows a lot of tricks. Gremlin has done dock diving, but her love in life is hunting. Mice to wild hogs, she likes it all. Medusa is her backup strength. Brulee is being trained for explosives detection with goals of competing in obedience, fast cat, dock diving, and anything else she enjoys.
Our Training Approach
We believe that dogs learn best by setting clear boundaries by showing what is and isn’t acceptable behavior. Dogs are taught behaviors through positive experiences, and once they know the behavior, they are held to a higher standard and shown when they fail to follow through with the behavior. We use the methods that are best for individual dogs. The dogs are responsible for showing us what they need, and we listen to change our training approach to fit them. This approach allows us to get great results in less time. That means less time that you, the owner, have to spend annoyed, yelling at your dog, and being embarrassed by your dog and more time actually enjoying the time you spend with them!
